Rain made mush of today's qualifying session for the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The number 8 Peugeot driven by Bourdais, Sarrazin and Lamy remains on pole with a time of 3:26.344. McNish, Kristensen and Capello remain second in the Audi R10 with a 3:26.916. Villeneuve, Gene and Minassian will line up 3rd in the second Peugeot. It's nice to see that Audi has some serious factory competition, though there remains the ominous fact that Audi, in R8, Bentley Speed 8, or R10 form, has been victorious at Le Mans each year since 2000. It should be noted, though, that the R10 has lost the past 3 ALMS races to the Porsche RS Spyder while the Peugeot is undefeated in LMES competition so far this season, winning both at Valencia and Monza.
In LMP2, Adrian Fernandez was fastest in the Barazi Epsilon team's Zytek. Aston Martin beat out the Corvettes in GT1 and the Scuderia Escosse team went fastest in GT2 wth ther Ferrari F430 GT2.
ALMS fans can root for the Risi Competizione or Flying Lizard GT2 teams, the factory Corvettes or the LNT Panoz's. I know little about the LMES GT2 teams, so I don't know where the competition lies. Rumor has it that the Porsche Spyder and Acura P2 cars may make it to Le Mans 2008. Let's hope so!
